Integrating Digital Therapeutics: AI Tools, Client Autonomy, and Co-Occurring Disorders

admin 2 hours

About This Course

This 2-hour online module prepares Substance Use Disorder (SUD) counselors to navigate the ethical, legal, and clinical integration of digital therapeutics—specifically artificial intelligence self-help tools like cooccurring.ai and the ACE platform. Emphasizing the counselor’s role as an educator rather than an administrator, the curriculum bridges technology and behavioral health. It trains practitioners to utilize evidence-based frameworks, such as Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, to process the insights clients gain from AI tools, while strictly adhering to SAMHSA guidelines and CADTP ethical standards regarding boundaries and data privacy.

What You Will Learn

  • Identify at least three key legal and ethical constraints (including 42 CFR Part 2, HIPAA, and CADTP ethical codes) regarding client data privacy when utilizing AI tools.
  • Demonstrate a working understanding of the ACE interface on the cooccurring.ai platform to accurately explain its function as a non-diagnostic psychoeducational adjunct.
  • Formulate safe, generalized prompting strategies to teach clients, ensuring clients know how to protect their Protected Health Information (PHI) when interacting with AI.
  • Apply Motivational Interviewing or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques to process and explore AI-generated insights within a formal counseling session.
